American Diabetes Association recommends screening of all individuals over the age of 50 years, diagnosed with diabetes mellitus, for peripheral arterial disease (PAD). Screening should be done at an earlier age if there are multiple risk factors such as smoking and obesity. The Ankle/Brachial Index (ABI) is an easily performed examination used to screen people for peripheral arterial disease. InStep Foot Clinic can provide ABI screening for our patients utilizing Padnet. Test results are interpreted by local vascular surgeons, and a copy of their report is provided to your primary care physician. Individuals with PAD are at higher risk for heart attack and stroke, therefore it's important to identify the severity of diminished circulation. To obtain more information about PAD go to www.Padnet.com and click on education.
